Our Mission
The mission of Tyndale Philosophy is to promote Christ-centered teaching, scholarship, and activism—equipping students to love God with minds transformed by rigorous biblical and philosophical training.
Our Vision
The vision of Tyndale Philosophy is to be identified among the best Christ-centered philosophy programs in North America. We aim to be a community of scholar-teachers and students committed to each other, and to contending for the objective truth of the Christian faith (Jude 3) in a generation characterized by postmodern relativism and scientism.
Our Values
The values of Tyndale Philosophy constitute the operating system out of which we pursue our vision. These core values are summarized in three key words: Reason, Renewal and Relationship.
Reason: The Value of Thinking
We value the objectivity of reason as a God-given means for acquiring belief, truth, and knowledge. As such, we affirm the value of natural theology in defending the rationality of belief in God (see here). “Our wisdom, prudence, and piety, our present conduct and our future hope, are all influenced by the use of rational powers in the search after truth” (Isaac Watts, Logic: The Right Use of Reason in the Inquiry After Truth, p.2).
Renewal: The Value of Transformation
We value and aim to facilitate personal and spiritual renewal that begins with conforming our thinking to God’s inspired Word as opposed to the “pattern of this world” (Rom 12:2). Philosophy is practical, powerful, and illuminating. But Christian professors and students are to live “on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Mt 4:4). The integration of the Bible and Philosophy–by way of modelling and guided practice–is a hallmark of our program.
Relationship: The Value of Teamwork
We value philosophical work undertaken in a intellectually vibrant, supportive community that celebrates the successes of others. Our goal is to promote fellowship and goodwill in pursuit of a common goal: pursuing “the mind of Christ” (1 Cor 2:16) and bringing honor to His name. We prize individual academic excellence, but also the cultivation of intellectual honesty, humility, and respect for others in community.
